What happens to used cooking oil?
The task of caring for the environment has become more extensive over time, and although, individually we carry out various actions to reduce, reuse and recycle, it is a fact that the industrial sector is also seeking to balance the impact not only environmental but also economic and social.
There are organizations that help companies, communities, and governments manage sustainable destinations, helping them meet their needs considering future generations. EarthCheck is an international tourism advisory group that promotes sustainable tourism and certifies destinations that work and who are committed to the environment and the community.
At Grand Velas Riviera Nayarit we have been bestowed the Gold level certificate, this level is achieved by having demonstrated for 5 consecutive years our sustainable commitment to the environment. Each year an audit is carried out in which certain standards are evaluated, taking into account all of the actions that have been taken to prevent harmful substances from affecting the environment. Being such a topic of global importance, it is essential to emphasize that we daily discard substances that greatly affect water, air, and earth.
Preventing damage is simple
The oil we use for cooking is one of the main causes of water pollution, as for most of us it is quite easy to pour it down the drain. But do you know the amount of water that is contaminated with just one liter of oil? 1,000 liters! And the cost of treating that water is multiplied by 10. At Grand Velas Riviera Nayarit, we take measures to reduce such impact and many others, but this one, in particular, is done by collecting the used oil in the kitchens and deliver it to a specialized company. Sonne Energéticos is our ally on this mission.
The process begins by collecting the oil in special containers, and each month this company collects and transports it to its facilities for recycling. Thus giving life to new materials and products such as lubricants, soaps, candles, cosmetic products, paints, varnishes, biofuels, organic fertilizer, and additive for animals for animal food.
