Colores y Sabores Art Workshop: A little piece of Mexico to take home
Some travel memories end up on a shelf. Others become part of everyday life. A hand-painted canvas tote can be both.
In Puerto Vallarta, Velas Vallarta and Casa Velas have introduced a new experience that brings together creativity, gastronomy, and some of Mexico’s most recognizable visual motifs. Colores y Sabores: Art of Mexico Workshop invites guests to explore the country through color and flavor, then take home a keepsake they created themselves.

An afternoon made for creating
The concept is simple: each guest receives a premium canvas tote to personalize with Mexico-inspired designs.
Alebrijes, agave, cacti, and papel picado are among the available motifs, along with details found throughout the resorts, including lotus flowers, koi fish, and the bougainvillea cascading from their balconies.
No artistic experience is required. Using stencils and different colors, guests can experiment with their own combinations and create a design that feels uniquely theirs.
The result is more than a souvenir. It’s something made during the trip that can be used long after the vacation is over.
Art tastes better with something to share
As the totes begin to take shape, the culinary side of the experience comes to life.
The table features regional Mexican bites, aguas frescas, Mexican wine and artisanal spirits, charcuterie, Mexican cheeses, and other local flavors.
Rather than simply taking a break for a bite, food becomes part of the creative experience, turning the workshop into a relaxed way to discover Mexico through different senses.
After all, few things capture the feeling of a trip quite like the colors you remember and the flavors you can still recognize long after you’ve returned home.

Mexico through a Puerto Vallarta lens
Part of what makes Colores y Sabores distinctive is the way it draws inspiration from its surroundings.
At Velas Vallarta, the family-friendly resort overlooking the Pacific, the workshop is available for private groups of four or more. At Casa Velas, the adults-only resort offers the experience as part of its rotating activity schedule, included in the nightly rate.
While both resorts share the same creative concept, each offers a different setting: one surrounded by the energy of Puerto Vallarta and designed with families in mind, the other offering a more intimate adults-only atmosphere.
You can also add the workshop to MICE itineraries as an optional group activity, with pricing based on group size.
A souvenir that doesn’t stay in the suitcase
Perhaps that’s the best part of the experience: when the workshop ends, you don’t just have a new tote. You have a story behind it.
You might remember the colors you chose, the design that caught your eye, or the flavors you sampled while creating it. And every time you use the tote, you’ll have a little reminder of your time in Puerto Vallarta.
